I am writing you today to inform Kearney Public School students involved in Athletics at both the Middle Schools and Kearney High School that your son/daughter will no longer be able to receive a free sports physical. Traditionally, the Kearney High School Activities Department partnered with the Kearney Clinic to conduct these free physicals on two nights in late July/early August. Students from all over Buffalo County were allowed to take advantage of this opportunity. Area schools impacted by this change were notified by fax late last week by the Buffalo County Medical Society.
It is my intent in sending this information out now so that you can plan accordingly in scheduling your families' physicals. Nebraska Schools Activities Association (NSAA) Bylaws mandate that schools can accept a students' physical dated after May 1st for the following school year. Your son/daughter WILL NOT be able to participate in athletics during the 2014-2015 school year without a physical. We encourage your student-athlete to stop by the Activities Office and pick up a physical card that can be used by your primary care physician.
As an Activities Department Team, we will do our very best to continually communicate this information to the student-athletes impacted. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Activities Department at 308-698-8066. I wish all of you the very best as we bring to a close another school year.
